According to Inside Higher Ed, a full professor at University of North Georgia is facing termination based upon a clause in the employee handbook — not the faculty manual — which states that “unruly” employees can be fired. Apparently at issue is that Professor McCard asked a guest speaker to either speak louder or clarify a point. (Based on the comments, it may be both in separate incidents.) McCard is one of the founders of the campus’s AAUP chapter, and the firing is being widely seen as an attempt to silence a critic of the administration. More can be found here.
